Summer-Fall Activities 2007

by Stacy on August 1, 2007

I hope that you are doing well. I’d love to hear from you!! Drop me a note.

For me, LIFE IS GOOD! I’m healthy and fortunate to be exposed to amazing people doing amazing things, and involved in many new and exciting projects. I’ve also had the opportunity to do quite a bit of traveling in 2007.

Travel:

I spent 16 days in Nicaragua in July; it was AWESOME!! It was a vacation like no other. see “Photos.”  I didn’t know Bonnie very well (we have a mutual friend) but, we couldn’t have been more compatible for this trip. We did a variety of things including meeting tourists (including one gal from England who has already visited San Diego) and locals (elderly and children alike), conquering a treacherous volcano hike, experiencing invigorating volcano surfing, zip lining through a beautiful forested area, site seeing in 4 towns and 2 nights in the main City of Managua, participating in the July 19th Political celebration in Managua, Latin dancing (in a few places), hanging out at the Beach, observing amazing sunsets, FABULOUS food everywhere we went and Bonnie’s purchase of a new home (she’ll be moving there in November)! If you like the adventure of traveling to Central America, I’d recommend Nicaragua. I know that I plan to return, likely sooner than later!!

In addition to this fabulous and lengthy adventure, I have also done the following travel. I started the 2007 year off with a motorhome trip with Bonnie, Erick and Lyn to San Felipe, Mexico. In February I enjoyed fun weekends with friends in each of Boca Raton, Florida and Chicago, IL. March brought me to New York to meet Kelley and then to MA to visit friends and family. My friend Carole from Maine met me in New York for a weekend in May; this visit also offered me the opportunity to meet Muffin and Doreen (see below). In August I enjoyed another trip to New England to visit family and friends.

WOW, what a year already, and I am still planning another trip to New England in October, and likely a few more weeks in Nicaragua to finish off the year.

Volunteer Projects:

I love my variety of work with the San Diego American Cancer Society, and my roles and/or interests now expand both Statewide, and Nationally for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. I hope that you will join my 2007 H.U.G. Campaign.

Nationally: I am networking with top Making Strides fundraisers and staff in NY, MA, IL, and others. I have been talking to Sue Harmon, Muffin Hamm and Doreen Semel, top fundraisers in Westchester, NY, as to how we can help to elevate the awareness of Making Strides Nationally. These gals are all breast cancer survivors and have provided me additional drive and motivation to keep up the momentum. Exciting ideas are BREWING! And, thanks to YOUR help, I am so proud to continue to be the #1 National Fundraiser for Making Strides.

For the first time, Stacy’s Circle of Friends is taking its show on the road. Victoria and I will be co-leading a Stacy’s Circle of Friends team called “Tickled Pink” in Nashua, NH on October 14th. And, friends have also started Stacy’s Circle of Friends teams in San Francisco, CA and New Haven, CT, and we might even see a few more pop up before the season is out!

Statewide: As the CA Making Strides Chair, I was able to help initiate Sacramento’s formation of a volunteer group (like I envisioned and helped to implement in San Diego). I love talking to other motivated Striders who want to elevate their level of commitment to the event. San Francisco is also jump started to get their group going.

On May 19th I had the wonderful opportunity to be a keynote speaker at the UCLA Bruin Belles Service Association’s 11th annual Women’s Leadership Conference. I enjoyed turning their theme of “SEE Yourself; Seeking, Empowering and Engaging Yourself” into a 45 minute motivational presentation with my personal stories and suggestions. I was nervous AND excited, but it went well. I was fortunate to have Jenn, Anna, Mark and Christina in the audience! If you know of a speaking opportunity that I might be interested in, please let me know.

Locally: I enjoyed a new fundraiser this year by being a part of the Lakeside Rodeo’s first year with a “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” theme. Check out some of the photos in my “photos” section of the website, see 2007 Lakeside Rodeo.

I was again a co-captain (with Kelli Brockington) for the American Cancer Society’s 2007 La Jolla Relay for Life event. This event is always very moving with so many friends/family teams supporting those who have endured cancer, or who have lost their battle to cancer. A BIG THANKS to those of you who supported me in this event where I was the #1 local fundraiser. Enjoy the photos in my “photo” section of the website, see 2007 Relay for Life.

I continue to work with the top fundraisers, special volunteers and staff to enhance the overall experience of the Making Strides Event and to increase its overall success. I’m excited to have launched my 2007 H.U.G. Campaign to raise over $125,000 for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. By working with YOU, all things are possible. I know that TOGETHER, we will be celebrating another phenomenal fundraising season!

If you’re already in the Circle THANK YOU! And, if you’re new to the Circle, WELCOME!!

No matter how small your actions may seem, let everything that you do to help others, transform your heart to only a place that “Giving” can take you.

Consider Yourself HUGGED!
Many Blessings!!
Stacy
